First, set the context for work arrangements with your team. As a group, you can use whiteboards (physical or numeric), adhesion notes, worksheets, or flipcharts. I do not think that these agreements are necessary in all cases, but you might find them useful if you fit one of these scenarios: the last sections, 9 and 10, are of particular importance, because we want to create a values-oriented culture. Scrum values anchored our culture, but we need to broaden our minds to involve our company and our team. For example, while honesty is essential to scrum success, it`s not an essential value. I also haven`t seen it often in the company`s value statements, but I`ve worked with many teams who want to explicitly include it in their work agreements. A work agreement is a living document that lists how the team will work according to the needs of the team members. Since no two teams are the same, the work agreements are different – and even a single team will want to review their work agreement from time to time. For example, if members join or leave a team, the needs of the collective are likely to change. The working agreement should take these needs into account.
There is no official or correct way to create work agreements, so Steve uses the approach I share in my workshops. As usual with a Scrum Master, good preparation pays off. Consider informing the team in advance of the categories/areas of the agreement. Together, you define fundamental guidelines for cooperation to eliminate costly misunderstandings. For each group, make sure that there are unique actions for each item, if any. For example, if a group of items alludes to how we handle external team requests or unforeseen issues, it`s helpful as a team to agree on how we`re going to respond to them. We can create actions such as „Must be discussed with PO”, „Must be maintained according to our story format taking into account the definition of Ready” and „PO updates the external part with expected delivery based on team capacity and discussion”. . . .
